Introduction

About this Recipe

These buns were adapted from a recipe in a 1992 UBC cookbook (date uncertain since I don’t have the original any more). The dough will work just fine if you make it the traditional way, using a standard yeast dough mixing procedure. You can substitute warm milk for the water and milk powder. You can use melted or shaved butter instead of oil. Using round cake pans to bake the rolls isn’t necessary but it makes two nice sets of buns that fit perfectly on a dinner plate: one for immediate use and the other to freeze or offer a neighbour.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3/4 cups + 2 Tablespoons warm water
  • 1 medium egg (room temperature)

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons yeast
